During the month of April, the Auburn Police Department participated in Illinois’ Distracted Driving Enforcement campaign, bringing awareness to area residents and issuing more than 70 citations. Increased enforcement was part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

“Driver distraction is a persistent issue in Auburn, and often has life-altering consequence,” Auburn Police Chief Dave Campbell said. “Issuing a citation is a proven way to get motorists to reduce distracted driving.”

In April, Auburn police issued 22 electronic communication device citations, 17 speeding citations and 16 seat belt citations.
