The Auburn city council voted 8-0 at Monday’s two-hour regular meeting to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the Illinois Office of the Comptroller to have access to the Comptroller’s Local Debt Recovery Program.
The council had reviewed the agreement at its previous meetings and Mayor Tom Berola said the program “is another way for us to collect on debt that is owed to the city. We file with the Comptroller’s office and we can get what we’re owed.” Attorney Rusty Reed said the city would be able to collect outstanding debts from tax returns, government contracts and wages through the program.
The council voted 8-0 to approve a zoning change for a property at 402 South Sixth, reverting the land back to R-1 zoning from B-3. Alderman Tracy Sheppard said the action had been recommended by the Zoning Board at its September 11 meeting.
