Auburn snapped a six-game losing skid by winning its last two games in the Riverton Girls Christmas Tournament, 48-18 over the Pana junior varsity and 62-33 over Decatur Lutheran.

Auburn’s 7th grade girls outscored Williamsville 18-0 over the middle two quarters to roll to a 28-9 win in the third place of the County Tournament at Doglio Gym last Wednesday.

Pana used a high-powered offense to roll past Auburn 59-30 in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs Friday. The Trojans closed out the year with a 6-4 record.

Auburn rallied from behind in the late going of both sets to knock off New Berlin 27-25, 25-23 in a two-set thriller on Dig For the Cure Night last Thursday at Doglio Gymnasium.

Auburn used several big plays to get the 2022 season off to a good start with a 42-21 triumph over WFNB Friday at Potts Field. The Trojans will try to make it two straight on the road this Friday at Maroa-Forsyth, a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The fall sports season is already underway for several sports teams at Auburn High School. Following is a brief preview of some of the fall teams: 

Joey Ruzic of Auburn added another championship to his resume by winning the 2022 United States Marine Corps Junior Nationals Greco-Roman wrestling title at 113 pounds at Fargo, North Dakota last week.

Addison Wheatley wound up as the leader in eight offensive categories for the Auburn High softball girls, who made history by winning a share of the Sangamo Conference title for the first time ever in 2022.

Auburn High School track and field standouts Jackson Kern and Jacob Rollins ended the 2022 season with an exclamation point by repeating as double medalists at the IHSA Class 1A State Finals in Charleston, only with improved performances. 

Jacob Barth concluded a remarkable 8th grade season on the medal stand no less than four times at the IESA Class 3A State Track and Field Finals at East Peoria.

The Auburn Trojans stayed alive in the postseason with an 11-4 win over Sullivan in the first round of the Class 2A Regional here Monday.

Auburn suffered its first loss in the Sangamo Conference with a 14-2 setback at Maroa-Forsyth but the softball girls earned a split of conference games by crushing Riverton 18-1 in four innings.

Aleese Trimingham set a new school record in the 100 meter high hurdles to pick up one of two first places for the Auburn High girls team at Saturday’s Rocket Invitational at Rochester.

Auburn’s 8th grade boys track and field team scored 92 points to bring home the first place plaque from Saturday’s Sangamon County Meet at New Berlin.

Auburn High’s softball girls won three of four games last week, all Sangamo Conference wins over Athens, Pleasant Plains and New Berlin. The lone loss was a 5-4 setback to Sacred Heart-Griffin, which is 14-2 on the season.
