Auburn used several big plays to get the 2022 season off to a good start with a 42-21 triumph over WFNB Friday at Potts Field. The Trojans will try to make it two straight on the road this Friday at Maroa-Forsyth, a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The fall sports season is already underway for several sports teams at Auburn High School. Following is a brief preview of some of the fall teams: 

Joey Ruzic of Auburn added another championship to his resume by winning the 2022 United States Marine Corps Junior Nationals Greco-Roman wrestling title at 113 pounds at Fargo, North Dakota last week.

Addison Wheatley wound up as the leader in eight offensive categories for the Auburn High softball girls, who made history by winning a share of the Sangamo Conference title for the first time ever in 2022.

Auburn High School track and field standouts Jackson Kern and Jacob Rollins ended the 2022 season with an exclamation point by repeating as double medalists at the IHSA Class 1A State Finals in Charleston, only with improved performances. 

Jacob Barth concluded a remarkable 8th grade season on the medal stand no less than four times at the IESA Class 3A State Track and Field Finals at East Peoria.

The Auburn Trojans stayed alive in the postseason with an 11-4 win over Sullivan in the first round of the Class 2A Regional here Monday.

Auburn suffered its first loss in the Sangamo Conference with a 14-2 setback at Maroa-Forsyth but the softball girls earned a split of conference games by crushing Riverton 18-1 in four innings.

Aleese Trimingham set a new school record in the 100 meter high hurdles to pick up one of two first places for the Auburn High girls team at Saturday’s Rocket Invitational at Rochester.

Auburn’s 8th grade boys track and field team scored 92 points to bring home the first place plaque from Saturday’s Sangamon County Meet at New Berlin.

Auburn High’s softball girls won three of four games last week, all Sangamo Conference wins over Athens, Pleasant Plains and New Berlin. The lone loss was a 5-4 setback to Sacred Heart-Griffin, which is 14-2 on the season.

Auburn pounded out 16 hits while Sydney Rabideau pitched a two-hit shutout Monday as the Trojans blanked Hillsboro 15-0 in four innings.

Auburn broke open a close game with seven runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and the Trojans went on to crush Jacksonville Routt 11-1 in six innings for their first win of the 2022 season and their first under new head coach Ryan Patterson.

Eleven Auburn Junior High wrestlers qualified for the IESA Sectional at East Peoria with top three finishes at Saturday’s Class A Regional hosted by Auburn. The Trojans had five champions on the way to placing second as a team with 195.5 points behind Litchfield (261).

The Auburn Trojans bounced back from a tough 62-58 overtime loss to Pleasant Plains with back-to-back road wins over two of the area’s better teams. 

Auburn put four players in double figures to advance into the semifinals of the Sangamon County Tournament with a 63-50 triumph over Tri-City/Sangamon Valley Tuesday at LLCC’s Cass Gymnasium.

All-Tournament selection Spencer Rikas scored 20 points to lead Auburn to a 55-42 win over New Berlin Thursday in the third place game at the Waverly Holiday Tournament.

Auburn High’s wrestling team won four of five matches at Saturday’s Litchfield Duals after splitting a pair at the season opening triangular at Mt. Zion.

The Auburn Trojans went to 2-0 on the season with a win that won’t mean a title of any kind but surely has to rank as one of the greatest in school history, if only because any time David beats Goliath, it’s a big deal.

Auburn got 18 points from All-Tournament selection Marley Smith and 12 apiece from Izzy Davis and Kendal Conway to cruise past North Greene 62-25 for seventh place in the Waverly Thanksgiving Tournament.

Trojan Basketball Academy is a boys and girls basketball academy for grades K-5. The Academy will be held at Auburn Middle School Gym for eight weeks starting Saturday, January 8, 2022. The academy will be run by the boys and girls high school and junior high coaches and players. 

Treshaun Lancaster scored four touchdowns and the Trojan defense pitched a shutout as Auburn closed out the 2021 season on a high note with a 42-0 shutout win at Petersburg Porta Friday. The Trojans ended the year at 3-6 overall.
