The Auburn High School boys golf team won its first postseason title in 41 years by taking first place in the Class A Regional at The Rail Monday.
The Trojans won despite an off-day from their top player, Charlie Jessup, who shot a 94 with nine-hole rounds of 48-46. But Luke Boesdorfer shot an 85 (44-41) to lead Auburn, followed by Logan Kavish with 91 (39-52) and 92’s from Tyler Smith (43-49) and Reece Conway (45-57). Klayton Komnick, the team’s No. 6 player, shot 97 (56-41).
Auburn’s 360 total won the team title by seven strokes in an extremely close Regional that had seven teams finish within 12 shots of the winning score. Also advancing to next Monday’s Sectional at Rolling Greens in Mt. Sterling were Routt (367) and Lincolnwood (368), which advanced by a single shot over the South County co-op team.
