Auburn defeated Litchfield in the first round of the Class 2A Regional at Doglio Gym Monday, but the Lady Trojans saw their season come to an end with a three-set loss to Carlinville Tuesday. Auburn finished the year at 15-21 overall.
Marley Smith slammed 16 kills and Kylie MacKenzie had nine in the 25-23, 9-25, 25-23 loss to Carlinville. Smith had 12 kills and Elise Stewart had 20 assists against Litchfield, while Dorothy Dambacher led AHS with eight digs.
Auburn took an early 2-0 lead in the first set against Litchfield but then fell behind 14-10 and 15-11 before closing to within 16-15 on two straight kills by Smith. After Smith’s ace tied it at 17, the Lady Trojans went up 20-18 as Stewart and Aleese Trimingham combined for a block, then Krystal Bly landed a kill. Auburn scored four of its last five points on Litchfield hitting errors, in addition to a kill by MacKenzie to win 25-20.
