The Auburn High School wrestling team established a new school record for dual wins in a season by sweeping Shelbyville and Carlinville last Thursday at Doglio Gym.
The two wins lifted Auburn to 27-1 on the year, breaking the previous record of 26 wins done three times previously in 2014-15 (26-6), 2015-16 (26-4) and last year (26-3).
The outcomes were never in doubt for the Trojans, who are currently ranked No. 5 in the state in Class 1A by Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association. The only question was whether or not Thursday’s snowy conditions would cancel the four-team meet. Although Mt. Olive cancelled, Shelbyville and Carlinville both made the trip to Auburn.
