The transition from one high school basketball season to the next can present a number of challenges.

And for the Chatham Glenwood varsity boys and head coach Todd Blakeman, now in his 16th season at GHS, the transition from last season’s senior-dominated, Class 3A sectional finalist group to the start of the abbreviated 2021 season was quite a journey, to say the least.

The Titans finished 25-9 last year, advancing to the Class 3A Mt. Vernon Sectional title game before the season was abruptly shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

“We went for it last year,” Blakeman stated. “I’m not sure we’ve ever had a senior-dominated group like that, and we played everybody and played it all the way out. We were playing pretty well at the end of the year and we were ready to play East St. Louis when the rug was pulled out from under us.”

In addition to losing seniors Luke Lehnen, Tyler Burris, Eli Vogler, Tyler Estes and Jason Hansbrough to graduation, the program has lost several other players, for various reasons, who were expected to be key contributors this season.
