Memorial Day services in Chatham will take on a new look this year. Chatham American Legion Post 759 and VFW Post 4763 will not be having their traditional services. But there will be several things going on in the community.
The Chatham VFW will be hosting a “Poppy Art” Display around the Veterans Memorial Park. Displays will start at Chestnut and Market Streets and head north to Mulberry Street.
Each parking space will be the booth. For more information check the Chatham VFW website, the Chatham Central page on Facebook or call Jay Hoffman at 217-414-9637.
The Chatham Jaycees will be hosting a Drive-By Parade. Please decorate with red, white and blue or anything patriotic. The parade will start at Chatham Elementary School on South College Street in Chatham at 10 a.m. More information can be found on the Chatham Jaycees Parade Facebook page.
The Chatham American Legion and Chatham VFW will have a Joint Color Guard posted around the Veterans Memorial at the Veterans Memorial Park on the Square from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
There will be no speeches or crowds in keeping with the social distancing regulations. If you want to drive around the square and honk your horn in support of our veterans, that would be appreciated.
We hope to have the Chatham Fire Department display their big flag on Market Street from 10-10:30 a.m.
This Saturday morning, members of the Chatham American Legion and Chatham VFW will be placing flags on all of the graves at the Chatham cemeteries.
