Marvin J. Harris, 94, of Springfield, died Monday, November 8, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital from a heart attack.

Marvin was born September 15, 1927, in rural Marlette, Mich., the son of Henry and Rebecca Vanderwarker Harris.  He married Eleanor Stanczak September 6, 1952, in Marlette.

Marvin graduated from Marlette High School in 1946 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Japan. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Tri-State College in Angola, Ind. Marvin was self-employed as a tax accountant. He was a member of the American Legion Post #32 where he was a past commander, the Forty and Eight since 1983, where he was a Grand Commissaire Intendant for 25 years and also Grand Chef, and the Northenders VFW Post 10302.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bill and Tom Harris. Marvin is survived by his wife, Eleanor Harris of Springfield; daughters, Deborah Dove and Darlene (Robert) Harris-Kresse, both of Riverton; two granddaughters; and beloved dog, Sierra.

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #32, 1120 Sangamon Ave., Springfield, IL 62702.
