Douglas E. Weiss, age 59, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 14, 1961 in Springfield.  He is the son of Duane and Angela J. (Wilson) Weiss of rural Sherman.

Doug attended the Sherman-Williamsville Public Schools and after high school graduation, he attended Western Illinois University majoring in finance, and where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha.

He worked in the restaurant and hospitality area, moving up from host to manager in restaurants and front desk to manager in hotels.

Doug also worked as a floral designer and event manager.  He was a successful fundraiser for research for contagious diseases, as well as financial support for victims and their families.

He moved back to Sherman and was semi-retired, but worked for Casey’s General Store in Springfield.

Doug enjoyed and loved music and played French horn in the school band, sang in the choir and did theater in school, the Muni and in Lincoln Summer Productions.

Mourning his passing are his parents, Duane and Angela; sister, Carin (husband Gene) Weiss-Krolikowski; two nephews, Luke and David Krolikowski; several cousins and two aunts.

He is preceded in death by grandparents, Elmer and Dorothy Weiss and B. Russell and Thelma L. Wilson; uncles, C. Foster Wilson, Kim Wilson, and Thomas Weiss; and aunts, Cindy Goss and Maxine Elder. 

Visitation for Doug will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, with Rev. Cindy Rettig officiating.  Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville. Memorials for Doug can be made to the Cantrall United Methodist Church.
