4 So the St. Louis Cardinals are your Central Division champs, despite their best efforts to blow it in the last week. It would have been nice to not use Jack Flaherty Sunday, but he can still pitch twice in the NLDS vs. Atlanta (assuming it goes five). The Braves have been scuffling a bit the last few weeks, but does that make the Cardinals the favorite? Not that it matters because if you believe the experts, the all-powerful Dodgers are the ones going to the World Series from the NL.
• I decided not to update my column last week after I learned that the Blues had acquired Justin Faulk from the Canes for Joel Edmundson and prospect Dominik Bokk. Yes, there are concerns about how the Blues will manage the minutes of three top-flight right-hand defensemen, but I am sure Craig Berube will figure it out. And after last year’s run to the Cup, where players sacrificed personal goals for the ultimate sports chalice, I hope we can see the same mindset this season.
