I gotta start with our two state championship teams, so congratulations to our friends in the Rochester and Williamsville-Sherman areas. That's some pretty incredible stuff. Conditions were less than ideal up at Northern Illinois University, to say the least, but we are #blessed to have two state champions in our midst. Just a tremendous comeback for the Bullets, and what a dominant performance by the Rockets. Eight state championships in 10 seasons? That's ridiculous. Moving up a class? Yeah, it was not a problem for Rochester...

•It took a while, but East St. Louis pulled away from Prairie Ridge to win in 6A, and I'm still convinced the Flyers would beat any team in the state on a neutral field. Yes, a one time upset can happen, but it wouldn't be likely, in my mind...

•Meanwhile, down in Champaign-Urbana (where the high school state title games SHOULD be held - though ISU's Hancock Stadium would work also), the Illini just laid a huge egg on Saturday. I admit I didn't realize the extent of the injuries, so that has to be acknowledged. Without their QB and top wide receiver (who is an absolute difference-maker), the Illini offense was non-existent. It's hard to believe there isn't another quarterback on the roster who could be more effective than Matt Robinson, but it's whatever. You would think a bowl-bound squad could handle a 2-9 Northwestern team by controlling the line of scrimmage and with its defense, but alas, that's exactly where the biggest problems were!
