The Village of Riverton and many other Central Illinois communities were looking for political assistance and at legal options as it was hit late Friday afternoon with an “egregious” natural gas increase by the Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company.
After a rough four days, Mayor Tom Rader was much more relieved Tuesday afternoon, when he got a call from Governor JB Pritzker, who issued an emergency declaration for the snowstorms that pelted the area.
The emergency declaration “was the main hurdle to be done” in order to free up financial assistance, according to Rader, who said Pritzker has been in contact with Senator Dick Durbin and the White House. Money could come from either the state or federal government, he said.
