The Rochester village board took action on several items at Monday’s 55 minute regular meeting but decided to table taking moving forward on one major issue, an excavation project on State Street being mandated by the Illinois Envrionmental Protection Agency.

The board did approve amending the village code to provide for the use of sewer deduct meters, and new hourly wages for part-time officers with the Rochester Police Department. The board also discussed the possibility of the village assuming control from the library over management of the Community Room.

Shane Summers, public works chief, said the village had learned last week of the project on the site of Hank’s Gym at 330 State Street, a former gas station. The work will be needed to remove contaminated soil caused by an underground tank that had leaked several years ago. Summers said the project may cause a road closure and some traffic disruption since the excavation will be 34 by 30 feet and 10 feet deep.
