After some spirited discussion, the Williamsville Village Board unanimously approved a plan to charge baseball teams a fee to use the park for this year only.
The resolution approved at Monday’s meeting will feature a $45 charge for two hours’ use of the fields (Mayor Tom Yokley mentioned Fields 1, 3, and 5) and an optional $15 charge if the teams wish to have bathroom access or have the field dragged beforehand.
Compared to fees in other communities, Yokley called it “an absolute steal.”
The Williamsville Little League has decided not to play this year, so the fields are more readily available.
The village has received inquiries for both practices and games.
Local business owner and coach Augie Casson pushed back against the proposal, noting that teams with Williamsville School District students would be charged a fee.
“I know some teams will not come here because of that cost,” he said.
Also approved was a lease/purchase agreement with INB for the security camera system at the park, which has been extensively discussed at the last two meetings and reported in the Sun-Times.
